Two-sample scale rank procedures optimal for the generalized secant hyperbolic distribution

There are many linear rank tests for the two-sample dispersion problem presented in literature. However just a few of them, the simplest ones, are commonly used. These common tests are not efficient for many practical distributions and thus other simple tests need to be developed to serve a wider range of distributions. The generalized secant hyperbolic distribution, proposed by Vaughan in [9],...

Confidence Intervals for Lower Quantiles Based on Two-Sample Scheme

In this paper, a new two-sampling scheme is proposed to construct appropriate confidence intervals for the lower population quantiles. The confidence intervals are determined in the parametric and nonparametric set up and the optimality problem is discussed in each case. Finally, the proposed procedure is illustrated via a real data set.

PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT ANT-BASED ALGORITHMS FOR OPTIMIZATION OF MIXED VARIABLE DOMAIN IN CIVIL ENGINEERING DESIGNS

Ant colony optimization algorithms (ACOs) have been basically introduced to discrete variable problems and applied to different research domains in several engineering fields. Meanwhile, abundant studies have been already involved to adapt different ant models to continuous search spaces. Assessments indicate competitive performance of ACOs on discrete or continuous domains. Therefore, as poten...

Comparing the predictive values of diagnostic tests: sample size and analysis for paired study designs.

BACKGROUND Although statistical methodology is well developed for comparing diagnostic tests in terms of their sensitivities and specificities, comparative inference about predictive values is not. PURPOSE In this paper we consider the design and analysis of studies comparing the positive and negative predictive values of two diagnostic tests that are measured on all subjects. METHODS We fo...

A Comparison of Two Rank Tests for Repeated Measures Designs

The classic rank-based method for comparing J dependent groups is Friedman’s test. Consider a random sample of n vectors from some J-variate distribution. As is well-known, Friedman’s test assigns ranks to the values within each vector and is based on a compound symmetry assumption under the hypothesis of no treatment effect (e.g., Brunner, Domhof, & Langer, p. 68). That is, the distribution is...
